Assignments & Submissions
Assignments in Orbit Classroom are created within lessons and support a full submission lifecycle including file uploads, resubmission, withdrawal, and late tracking.
Creating Assignments
Teachers and admins create assignments inside lessons. Each assignment includes:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Title | Name of the assignment |
| Description | Instructions and requirements |
| Due Date | Deadline for student submissions |
| Weight | Relative weight used in grade calculations |
Assignments follow a draft/published lifecycle -- students only see assignments that have been published.
Set meaningful weights on assignments to control how they contribute to the lesson grade. A weight of 0 effectively makes an assignment optional for grading purposes.
Student Submissions
Students submit their work by uploading files directly within the assignment view.
- Accepted file types and sizes are enforced (maximum 30 MB per submission).
- Students can resubmit unlimited times up until the due date. Each resubmission replaces the active version.
- Full submission history is retained -- teachers and admins can review all prior versions.
Late Submissions
Submissions made after the due date are automatically flagged as late. Late submissions are still accepted and stored, but the flag is visible to teachers during grading.
Late flags are informational. The grading system does not automatically penalize late submissions -- teachers retain full discretion over how to handle them.
Withdrawal
Students may withdraw a submission before the due date. Withdrawal removes the submission from active consideration but does not delete it from the version history.
Submission Versioning
Every submission action (submit, resubmit, withdraw) is recorded as a version. Teachers and admins have access to the complete version history for each student, providing a transparent audit trail.
Versioning ensures that no student work is ever lost, even after resubmission or withdrawal.
